Storage Design - Data Domain

Cornerstone has worked extensively and closely with Data Domain (an EMC Company) on many projects. Together we have developed several white papers based on the use of the Data Domain platform as a data archival and data backup target. These white papers can be found here.

We strongly believe in the Data Domain product and have found it to be a very reliable storage platform. Cornerstone has extensive experience developing data archiving systems using Data Domain as the target storage platform. These deployments have been very successful and we have learned a great deal about the proper design and use of Data Domain with Symantec Enterprise Vault.

Data Domain is unique as a storage platform as it performs data deduplication and compression internally. This makes it a very interesting choice for coupling with data archival systems such as Symantec Enterprise Vault as it removes the burden of deduplication from the archiving system. Our testing showed a more than 45% reduction in processor and overall system utilization on any given archiving server by offloading the compression processes to the Data Domain. This also equally reduced the load on SQL server.
